A Special Invitation to all: Principals, Teachers, Counselors, Parents and PTA members…
Have your school become a Community Kindness Partner. It’s simple, fun and free!
Here’s all you have to do:
- Choose to participate in our Kindness Ambassador or Kindness Wall projects.
- Complete a short form indicating form of participation.
- When your time permits, provide us with news or announcements about kindness activities (and other good news) that is already happening in your school.
- Share the news of your upcoming kindness activities and create a “Wish List” if you would like community support to achieve your kindness goals. This can include allowing us to show kindness to you, your staff, students and their families (see ideas below).
We will feature any news or announcements you want to make about your kindness activities. You are also welcome to use our Free Calendar of Events.
“Kindness builds self-esteem. It provides students with an opportunity to feel pride in who they are
and in what they do” – Janice, Teacher
Showing Kindness in Our Schools
Here are a few suggestions of programs that have been done in local schools. Please indicate your interest in doing any of these or share your ideas for other kindness projects and add them to your Wish List. Additional ideas are available on: www.actsofkindness.org.
We will do our best to gather support for you from businesses, churches and the local community; giving them the opportunity to share kindness with you by providing practical support (prizes, donations, etc.) for your programs.
Perhaps you would like to proclaim Wednesday “Kindness Day” in your school. In simple ways, affirm kindness as a value. It is our belief that kind actions and undesirable behavior can not take place at the same time. By modeling, facilitating and rewarding kindness we hope to support you in creating a safe and positive learning environment for our children.
Show kindness to our teachers and staff:
Birthday Celebration
Show kindness to each teacher and staff member on their birthday with a card, balloon and birthday cake.
Free Snack Box
Treat yourselves to a gift of kindness by creating a “snack box”; free snacks for the teachers and staff.
Show kindness to the families:
Kindest Family Award
Twice a year, reward the family that is making a difference in your school or the community.
Show kindness by supporting the PTA and their goals:
PTA Rewards Night – encourage more parents to attend PTA meetings and get involved in PTA events by providing gifts for a free drawing to be held at meetings.
Help the students show kindness to each other:
Kindness Club
Create a Kindness Club at your school. You identify the goals or projects of the club.
Club needs can be added to your Wish List.
Kindness Buddies
Have older students mentor younger students by creating a Kindness Buddy program. Students can share a story or game time, do a craft together and exchange cards and notes.
Literacy Buddy Packs
Buddy Packs contain a book, a “buddy” (stuff animal) and a journal. Students get to take the Buddy Pack home for 2 nights and parents are asked to read the book with their child and help them make an entry in the journal.
Read Aloud
Virginia
READ ALOUD VIRGINIA programs organize volunteers and peers as reading partners with students in elementary, middle and high schools during the school year. As readers and listeners listen and talk about stories chosen by the listener, vocabulary is explained and expanded; and friendships develop.
