N-P Embrace Richmond

Embrace Richmond is a faith-based charitable organization helping families who are exiting Richmond area homeless shelters achieve and sustain self-sufficiency.

We Envision a city united to embrace all who are in need; a place where people of every race, class and religious background share a common spirit of love for their neighbors.

Our Mission is to help at-risk families establish healthy homes, increase self-sufficiency, and become agents of blessing in their own communities. We do this through partnerships with individuals, congregations, organizations and businesses.

Our Strategy is to encourage and empower people from diverse communities to use their gifts, talents and resources, to fulfill the needs, dreams and desires of families in transition.

Our Programs and Services

Embrace distributes Home Starter Packages to families as they exit local shelters. Home Starter packages consist of basic furniture items, linens, dishes and other household needs. The Home Starter Package eases the economic stress on families moving into a new home and improves the health and wellbeing of families.

Through Embrace Blessing Teams individuals can earn vouchers for additional household items, acquire job skills, and receive job placement assistance by volunteering to serve their neighbors in need.

During Welcome Home Projects hosted by local congregations and organizations, groups collect furniture and household items, learn about the issues facing homeless families, and are invited to become a part of the Embrace Richmond team.

Embrace Encouragers provide emotional, relational and spiritual support to individuals who are transitioning out of homelessness by offering support and encouragement for a period of six months or more.

How Can You Get Involved?

We do partner with congregations, organization, and individuals who can host "Welcome Home Parties". During these parties furniture is collected for homeless families. Our greatest needs are for mattresses, especially twin Bed frames, pots & pans, linens, dressers, and tables and chairs. Anyone who was interested should contact me at the numbers below.

In terms of volunteers, we need the following;
- A volunteer coordinator
- An event coordinator
- An office assistant
- A bookkeeper
- An accountant who can do our 990
- An auditor who can perform an audit
- Drivers who can assist with client pick-ups
- Encouragers who are interested in working directly with our clients

We are run almost entirely by volunteers and it is getting increasingly challenging with our rapid growth. I would love for you to post these needs. Have anyone who is interested contact me. We will be doing a volunteer information luncheon next month.
